Leroy Merlin’s Smart-Coupon Service

Coupons are sent to handsets via SMS, containing unique codes and a web-link. The received coupon is personalized and unique per campaign, allowing accountability. Redemption is performed on MPASS’s in-store info kiosks through which consumers at Leroy Merlin stores can register , in order to receive and print their coupons. Registration is also available through the company’s web-site, where visitors fill in their mobile phone number to receive a unique discount coupon. The customers’ details are collected for any future direct communication.

The Smart Coupon Service was launched on Jan 2012, and after two years of operation:

  • has distributed more than 44.000 (sent via SMS, Internet and Kiosk Walk-in), i.e. more than 120 delivered coupons/day
  • has issued more than 9.000 coupons (smart coupons printed before item purchase), i.e. 26 printed coupons/day

Overall, the Smart Coupon Service has achieved a 20% of return and redemption rate. One coupon out of five has turned to a purchase. In addition, the Smart Coupon Service has collected valuable data registered by 6.500 new customers.
